Fandom Jumping
Feb. 26th, 2026 09:58 amUsually my brain latches on to one fandom for a long while and when I read fanfic that's basically all I want to read. I might trickle back to an older fandom if I see something pop up on my Tumblr dash or someone throws me a rec but I tend to stay in one ship tag on Ao3 until I exhaust it or my brain gets sick of the ship.
Last year I decided to track the fanfic I was reading all year and I read almost 300 obikin fics (33.7% of my reading) and the next few ships were around the 100 each mark and then there were a few here and there that I went back to or couldn't find a lot of. (Ardeth Bay/Jonathan Carnahan ðŸ˜) but there was a really obvious trend in my spreadsheet right from the beginning where it was just mostly a wall of one ship..
This year I'm extra anxious with the state of the world, have no new interest itching at my brain, and am well into the tags of most of my well-worn ships digging for stories that tickle my fancy so instead my brain is all over the place hopping fandoms. February isn't quite over and my spreadsheet has 16 ships on it, last year there were 7 in February and 17 for the whole year.
I'm currently trying to at least get my brain to read some long fics I've been saving for later. I've also still got last year's surprising itch to write (since it had been a decade since I posted anything) but since brain won't pick a fandom I'm having trouble getting anything focused down.
Maybe I need to go find a prompt list to play with
